Thank You, Teacher

Every 5th of October, schools around the world, including the best international schools in the Philippines, celebrate World Teacher’s Day. This is the one day in the year when we appreciate and celebrate the efforts and achievements of our dear teachers.

Through this day, not only the importance of education is being highlighted, but also the very significant role our teachers play in shaping the lives of students.

To help us recognize these people, here are noteworthy things that you need to know about Teacher’s Day and why celebrating your teacher or mentor in life is important:

The Beginnings of Teacher’s Day

On October 5, 1966, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held an intergovernmental conference, which adopted their recommendation with regards to the Status of Teachers. Essentially, it recognized educators around the globe as an important instrument in the education of the youth. It also defined their rights and responsibilities as teachers. As a result, governments all over the world saw the immense importance of having highly qualified and talented professionals to educate the students.

To further commemorate and recognize educators all around the world, the World Teacher’s Day was first inaugurated on October 5, 1994. Since then, it has become the international day to celebrate the importance of teachers.

A Teacher’s Role

By its basic definition, a teacher is a person assigned to teach other people. In a school, students will be taught a number of lessons through the years, each being significant and valuable for their development. The teacher’s role is to guide his/her students to learn these lessons, as well as ensure that their development is holistic.

One common misconception about teachers is that they are only present in the school setting. However, this is definitely not the case as there are many kinds of teachers in your children’s lives. They can be their friends, their close relatives, and even you – their parents.

These people have the ability to give the youth valuable lessons and skills that would be used over the course of their lives. This makes Teacher’s Day a celebration for all the people, who continue to provide important and valuable lessons that are beneficial to us.

The teachers, who have educated their students of these values, can ensure that they will bring these with them from their throughout their lives.
